Drinking For Health?

Posted on January 19, 2012

Many of my clients have added Green Drinks to their day.  They are amazed at how that one small addition has affected their life. I have heard comments such as “I no longer crave ice cream at the end of the day!”

“My green drink has replaced my coffee in the morning and I don’t even want coffee anymore!”

“I have so much energy now, I can’t believe it!”

One recommendation that I have heard lately for fruits and vegetables is 9-12 servings per day.  That doesn’t seem as monumental if you put a few servings in a blender.  So, what’s the recipe you may ask?

My recipe is called ‘empty the refrigerator’ green drink.  I see what I have in the refrigerator and start adding.  To be more specific:

Start with 2-3 cups of water

add fruit that you like (if you have a powerful blender they can be frozen)

then add some veggies.

if you want your drink to be your whole breakfast and satisfy you for longer add some protein like nuts and seeds.

Today my green drink is:

2-3 cups of water

1 apple - cored

8 strawberries

1 kiwi - peeled

2 leaves of rainbow chard

2 leaves of collard greens

3 small carrots

2 stalks of celery

Handful of parsley

If you are nervous about all these veggies start with more fruits like bananas, oranges or whatever is on sale or in season and slowly add more veggies as you get used to it. My goal is more veggies less fruit.

Another success story...

My client, Kathy, lost 60 pounds, attained her goals in just 6 months and exceeded her own expectations.  Here is what she wrote to me.  “I just want to express my deep gratitude for all you have helped me with.  You are so wonderful and I knew I could trust you and allow myself to just be me and utilize our sessions to the most.  You are perfect for the work you do.  I am looking forward to our next 6 months together to see what will come up on this journey of healing and recovery.”

Willpower can only help so much.

Posted on December 31, 2011

I just read that most weight loss programs are only 2% successful. That is a horrible statistic. Why don’t diets work? One major reason is that most diets depend on willpower to be successful.  Willpower for most can only last so long.  Choosing between a carrot or a piece of chocolate cake may not be hard the first day of your diet, but what about by day 15?

Could you imagine yourself not caring about having that chocolate cake? cookies? or bag of potato chips?

That is why my program is so much more successful.  Using Emotional Freedom Technique as the main tool helps people get to the root of why they overeat.  When you can rid yourself of the reason you want potato chips, cookies or cake, you can pass by those foods without any urge to have them.  This really does happen.  I have seen it for myself and for many of my clients.

Are you are ready for a real change? Are you ready for a proven way to release your extra pounds without feeling deprived? If so, sign up today for my workshop ‘Weight Loss Without Willpower’ at Elizabethparis.net/events.

Fifth Healthy Habit That Can Change Your Life

Posted on December 21, 2011

So, my 5th and final Healthy Habit that can change your life is practicing EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).  Let me briefly explain how EFT can help change your life.

The discovery statement ‘all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in a person’s energy system’ is the basis of EFT. What that means is that the reason someone gets angry, sad, mad, scared or feels guilty is not a personality flaw. It is because their energy is out of balance.  The 2 incredible things about this is #1 negative emotions can make us sick (dis-ease) and/or mess up our lives tremendously. #2 is all we have to do to rid ourselves of these negative emotions is to balance our energy and we don’t have them anymore.  Which means our lives head in a much healthier direction.

Let me share with you a couple of real life examples of this to help explain.  First, if you haven’t read my earlier blog about my fear of flying you may want to skim it over.  Getting over that fear was life changing for me.  Also, read my blog about my experience helping the 6 yr old with her anxiety about getting on the bus every morning before school.  That changed her family’s life.

4th Healthy Habit That Can Change Your Life

Posted on December 16, 2011

This next habit is the hardest one for me to stay with.  Adding exercise - which I often refer to as movement.  Many of my clients have a negative view of ‘exercise’ and ‘movement’ seems to be more appealing.  The following article is inspiring and helps me get moving.  My brain can use all the help it can get.

Top 10 Reasons to Exercise

Exercise may be the closest thing to the fountain of youth. Not only does regular activity strengthen your muscles and improve heart and lung function, but it can also reduce your risk of major diseases, stimulate the growth of new brain cells, and even add years to your life. Studies show just 30 minutes of physical activity on most days is all that's required to reap big benefits.

The range of health bonuses now attributed to exercise has surprised even doctors. Research suggests that workouts may do the following:

1. Keep you young. Workouts such as brisk walking or cycling boost the amount of oxygen consumed during exercise. Improving your aerobic capacity by just 15 to 25 percent would be like shaving 10 to 20 years off your age. Aerobic exercise may also stimulate the growth of new brain cells in older adults.

2. Reduce infections. Moderate workouts temporarily rev-up the immune system by increasing the aggressiveness or capacity of immune cells. That may explain why people who exercise catch fewer colds.

3rd Healthy Habit That Can Change Your Life

Glorious Greens

Green vegetables are the foods most missing in modern diets. Learning to cook and eat greens is essential to creating health. When you nourish yourself with greens, you will naturally crowd out the foods that make you sick. Greens help build your internal rainforest and strengthen the blood and respiratory system. They are especially good for city people who rarely see fields of green in open countryside. Green is associated with spring, the time of renewal, refreshment and vital energy. In Asian medicine, green is related to the liver, emotional stability and creativity.

Nutritionally, greens are very high in calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, zinc and vitamins A, C, E and K. They are crammed with fiber, folic acid, chlorophyll and many other micronutrients and phytochemicals. Whenever possible, choose organic. But eating non-organic greens is much better than not eating any greens at all!

Some of the benefits of eating dark leafy greens are: -Blood purification

-Cancer prevention -Improved circulation -Strengthened immune system -Promotion of healthy intestinal flora -Promotion of subtle, light and flexible energy -Lifted spirit and elimination of depression -Improved liver, gall bladder and kidney function -Cleared congestion, especially in lungs by reducing mucus

Number 2 Healthy Habit That Can Change Your Life

Posted on December 12, 2011

My Number 2 Healthy Habit that can change your life.

This one you hear all the time. Drink water.  Our bodies are made up of about 75% water so it only makes sense that this vital fluid needs to be replenished.  Our cells need water.  Our brain needs water. We need water.  The question is how much?  The answer to that can vary. Size, activity, diet, are some of the variables.  A smaller person who does not have as much exercise and eats a lot of raw fruits and veggies will probably need less water than a larger person who eats a lot of cereal or drying foods.  One test that I use to see if I have had enough water is the pee test.  I know I am getting personal but the object is to have pee that is close to clear and not extremely yellow.

Many believe that the majority are dehydrated which contributes to poor health.  Drinking water helps to flush out kidneys and bladder expelling unwanted wastes before they reach toxic levels.  Keeping yourself hydrated can help with premature aging, weight loss, and lessen pains like headaches. So, tune in to your body to determine how much water you should drink every day.

5 healthy habits that can change your life. Number 1-

Posted on December 8, 2011

Trying to lose weight? For many, this is the time of year that we pack on the pounds. I want to share with you 5 easy habits you can easily start right now to reduce weight gain and even start to lose weight.  Many health programs tell you what you have to give up or take away from your life.  My goal at BerkshireEFT ‘ideas and solutions’ is to help you improve your health by adding some simple techniques not by deprivation. Today I want to talk about 1 simple step that you can implement immediately to improve your health. Chewing.  That’s right.  Have you noticed how you chew your food? Do you chew your food or do you just bite and swallow? Digestion starts in the mouth with the simple act of chewing.  Digestive juices get to work immediately while your food is in your mouth. By chewing food thoroughly you tap into it’s full nutritional value.  When you take the time to chew the rest of your digestion will be much easier on your stomach and small intestines. This will lead to a more satisfied feeling.

Experiment.  How many times can you chew a mouthful?  20? 30? 50? 70?

To get in the habit of chewing correctly try counting the number of times you chew and aim for 30-50 times and see how it feels.  Really enjoy what you are eating and let me know what you think.

Stay tuned for Number 2!

Do you have too much stress in your life?

Posted on December 7, 2011

Do you have too much Stress or Anxiety in your life?  You will enjoy this experience. One Saturday afternoon Jen asked me if EFT could help her 6 year old daughter’s habit of hugging Mom’s leg and crying when it was time to get on the bus for school every morning. Not a great way to start the day to say the least.  I can never guarantee EFT will work, but I will try it on everything so we gave it a shot.  What happened next was what we call in EFT land a ‘one minute wonder’.  I asked Maggie how much she did not want to get on the bus in the morning and by using my hands tried to measure her anxiety.  My hands clapped together was no anxiety and my hands extended farthest apart was a 10.

What are you afraid of?

Posted on December 2, 2011

I used to have a fear of flying. Not just a fear, but a real phobia about flying.

Seriously.  My husband would book us a vacation in Mexico 6 months in advance.  The minute I heard it was booked I would start to feel the panic.  The week before we left I would cry every night.  I did not want to go on that plane.  The only way I faced the flight, I am embarrassed to admit, was with a few stiff drinks.  Twice I even reverted to some prescribed meds to calm me.  It was horrible for me and I can’t imagine how hard it was for my husband.  We always had a wonderful time on the vacation, it was just the thought of flying that frightened me horribly.  Then I learned EFT.  What a difference in my life.  I no longer fear flying.  I thought of that today as we were 37,000 feet in the air.  When the pilot told us to “enjoy the flight”, I found myself doing just that.  There was no anticipatory fear this week or for the last 6 months for that matter.  I feel such freedom.

It’s amazing how EFT can eliminate so many different kinds of fears.  Fear of heights, fear of relationships, fear of public speaking, fear of critters, fear of __________ (you fill in the blank!)

So, what are your fears and phobias?  How do they affect you and your life?  What would life be like if you no longer had them?

Join me for a “Freedom from Fears” Workshop using EFT in February.  I will post more details soon.
